Jorge Mendonça e Costa
Jorge Mendonça e Costa is the Executive Director of the Portuguese Association of Large Industrial Electricity Consumers (APIGCEE) and a Coordinating Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (DEM) at the Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa (ISEL).
He is a member of the Board of IFIEC Europe – the International Federation of Industrial Energy Consumers – and has served as an advisor to the Tariff Council of the Portuguese Energy Services Regulatory Authority (ERSE).
He has dedicated most of his career to the Energy sector, having served as Senior Technical Advisor at the Permanent Representation of Portugal to the European Union (REPER), participating in the European Council Working Groups on Energy and Atomic Issues in Belgium (2001–2004). He was Director at Climaespaço – Urban Thermal Energy Distribution, S.A. (1999–2000) and at the Portuguese Energy Agency (ADENE) (1994–1999).
He worked as an R&D Engineer in the thermal-hydraulic simulation section of the nuclear production department at Tractebel Energy Engineering in Belgium (1991–1993).
He has also served as a consultant for GDF Suez (now Engie) and Cogen Portugal.
He gained project management experience in new shipbuilding at the Viana do Castelo Shipyards (ENVC) (2005–2006).
He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico (1984) and a PhD from the Catholic University of Leuven (Katholieke Universiteit Leuven) (1992). He was a PhD student (1987–1991) and completed the Diploma Course (1986) at the Von Karman Institute for Fluid Dynamics in Belgium.
