António Comprido
He holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from Instituto Superior Técnico. Over the course of more than 50 years of professional career, he had many opportunities to attend training programs in various professional fields, including courses at the Universities of Cambridge and Stanford.
He began his career as a Research Assistant at the Nuclear Physics and Engineering Laboratory of the Nuclear Energy Board. Between 1972 and 1979, he was a Teaching Assistant in the Mechanical Engineering course at the same university where he graduated.
From 1975 to 1987, he worked in the Shipbuilding Industry, holding positions in different sectors and culminating as Director of the Organization & IT and Ship Repair Departments at Setenave, one of the largest shipyards in the world at the time. He was also a Director at Siderurgia Nacional between 1987 and 1988.
He joined BP Portugal as a Director in 1988 and became a Board Member in 1994, later serving as Chairman from 1999 to 2008, following a two-year period (1997–1999) as CFO of BP Oil UK. He was also a member of the Board of the Portuguese Association of Oil Companies (APETRO), serving as its President from 2001 to 2007.
He retired from BP in 2008 and became Secretary-General of APETRO, now EPCOL, in 2009.
He served as President of the Portuguese-British Chamber of Commerce between 2010 and 2017, is a Senior Member of the Portuguese Engineers Association and a member of the Advisory Board of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico. He also represents EPCOL on the Advisory Boards of ENSE, ERSE, and the PCBC Platform.
